By a quirk of history I was born in the French Mediterranean town of Cannes in the Hotel Martinez. Thus, as I always say, I started travelling even before I was born, because I was in my mother’s womb when she and my father made the voyage. Although I stayed in Cannes for only six weeks after I was born, I have subsequently, along with my wife travelled to dozens of countries on all five continents, logging many million miles over the last 40 years. I find travelling to be educative, exhilarating and enjoyable, and have written a good deal about my travels to various parts of the world.
